Guaranteed Access to Market and Subsidy for Farmers
We assure our farmers of a guaranteed market for paddy and we honour it at all costs.
Paddy in Malaysia is cultivated in most parts of the country, predominantly in the northern, central and eastern regions of the Peninsula, with several major parts in Sarawak and Sabah.
Our presence in these important granary areas is represented through our substantial involvement in the midstream operations. These comprise procurement of paddy, drying, milling and processing. Paddy procurement at a Guaranteed Price Scheme is one of the main instruments of government intervention and BERNAS has been mandated to execute this scheme through its designated role as the Buyer of Last Resort.
Correspondingly, BERNAS is also responsible for the delivery of the paddy price subsidy scheme to all registered farmers on behalf of the Government. This output subsidy scheme is twofold in its objective. It is to enable the paddy to be priced accordingly to ensure the farmers enjoy a consistently good price for their produce while at the same time shielding the consumers from any abrupt price increases.
